Can an awareness of kinesiology increase our knowledge and understanding and raise our level of teaching? Come along to the day to discover, explore and share ideas.
The day is aimed at investigating the shoulder complex in as straightforward terms as possible, looking at its anatomy and physiology and being able to adapt these principles to yoga practices. Suitable for teachers to refresh their memory and for current Diploma students.

    About the Tutor

Alison has been practising yoga and has been a member of the BWY for over 30 years. She is a DCT in Northumberland and has trained Foundation Course Tutors as well as being a QA for FC Courses. She presently runs a Distance IST Course on kinesiology topics.
Alison has a background in Satyananda, Iyengar and Tri yoga with emphasis on an eclectic style, accessible to all levels of ability. She trained as a Therapist with the Biomedical Trust specialising in asthma, cancer and spinal problems.
She has lived and worked in the USA, Germany, France and England and enjoys returning to England often to teach and run training Courses.

    Outline plan for the day

Alison will revisit Kinesiology to start the day, then look at the shoulder complex – identifying the shoulder joint and shoulder girdle and their working connection.
This will be a day of creative discussion and practical hands-on work in groups or pairs to enhance awareness, knowledge and confidence in this topic.
There will also be Powerpoints with clear colourful pictures of the structure of the shoulder, aimed at visual learners in particular. Some common shoulder «ailments» will also be looked at.
You will leave with new ideas for your future teaching having explored, recalled and experienced the topic in a simpler, more accessible way.
A booklet to take home with you, will be given out on the day too. This will include photos, worksheets and handouts of the sessions.
I look forward to meeting you all then!
