Looking at ways to refine perception and nuance movement such as body mapping, orientating ourselves through weight and space, balancing intrinsic and extrinsic musculature, exploring the influence of birth on breath.

tutor photo Upasana received her yoga teaching diploma, after a five year course in the Satyananda tradition, from the Dharma Yoga Centre, under the tutelage of Julie Friedeberger and Swami Dharmananda Saraswati.

From 2001 to 2005 she was a resident of Mandala Yoga Ashram in Wales, where she continues to teach regularly, including an annual weekend course of 'Movement, Pleasure and Insight.

Teachers will be able to revise and extend their knowledge of the workings of the spine looking at the likely causes of low back pain and the practices that can exacerbate these conditions. During a tutor lead practical session teachers will explore modifications they can make to accommodate a variety of back problems and practices that will aid recovery and help maintain a healthy back.

tutor photo Maureen started teaching in Yoga in 1994 gaining her British Wheel of Yoga Teacher's Diploma in 1997. She then studied Yoga Therapy with the Yoga Biomedical Trust where she specialized in Lower Back Problems. Her particular interest in this condition arose as a result of her own sacroiliac and herniated disc problems and the fact that she used Yoga to aid her recovery from surgery for the latter.

Maureen's teaching and personal practice and have been influenced by many different styles, including Iyengar, Scaravelli and Astanga Vinyasa, but she is particularly influenced by the Dynamic Yoga of Godfrey Devereux and the Vinyasa Flow of Shiva Rea whose teacher training course she completed in 2004. In addition to yoga qualifications Maureen has also qualified as an instructor in Pilates based matwork, holds a Diploma in Nuad Boran Thai Massage and a Certificate in Post Compulsory Education and Training.
