Training Opportunities

In Service Training

All British Wheel of Yoga teachers are required to attend at least one qualifying In Service Training Day per year in order to keep their teaching qualifications up to date. The In Service Training events arranged in this area are listed below but teachers are free to attend other events such as the BWY National Congress, or other major yoga events which are specifically stated as being qualifying events, or In Service Training Days arranged by other areas.

IST Events are open to all yoga teachers, whatever their organisation, Cost is £20.00 for BWY teachers and for BWY members who teach for other organisations. Teachers of other organisations who are not BWY members £25.00 Please quote current BWY number i.e. 05/..../..... on all applications

All applications must be made to the Person listed above Please forward cheque made payable to BWY Northern Region with your application quoting Membership number. Please enclose two SAE’s for an acknowledgment, and then map / instructions / pre course material nearer the time.
All events please bring Mat, Blocks, Belts Writing materials & Packed Lunch plus any items specifically noted above.

BWY Teaching Training Diploma Courses

The BWY Teacher Training Courses are usually run on a monthly meeting basis with an intensive residential weekend and cover in depth all aspects of Yoga including Hatha, Pranayama, Meditation, Philosophy, Classic Texts, Professional aspects of teaching, Lesson Planning, etc. The full Course is spread over a period of about 3 years and successful completion brings the reward of the BWY Teaching Diploma.
A Minimum of TWO years yoga class attendance with a qualified teacher is required to attend Teacher training Courses please apply early as places are limited.

BWY Teaching Diploma Course Durham

A BWY Teachers Diploma Course tutored by Terri Hilder will be starting in Durham City in Autumn 2008. The course will meet every month except August, sometimes for weekends (Saturday plus Sunday) and sometimes just Saturdays over approximately 2.5 to 2.75 years. This course will be rather more intensive than the “usual” 3+ years course. In addition to course days a considerable amount of home study is involved. Applicants must have completed a BWY foundation course or have equivalent experience. Applications will be taken from February 2008. Each Regional Officer has a chart of the National costs. If you need an observation, either your tutor or the relevant Regional Officer can give you information on this.

BWY Foundation Courses

The BWY Foundation Courses are usually run on a monthly meeting basis with an intensive residential weekend and cover all aspects of Yoga including Hatha, Pranayama, Meditation, Philosophy, Classic Texts, etc.
The Foundation Course can be used by ordinary yoga class members to take them deeper into their yoga, or as an introduction to the BWY Teacher Training Course.
A Minimum of TWO years yoga class attendance with a qualified teacher is required to attend the Foundation Courses please apply early as places are limited.

Tyne and Wear

Tyne & Wear BWY Foundation 1 Course 2008/09  Informative and fun for Students who wish to study the philosophy and practice of yoga with a friendly group of likeminded people.

10 meetings on Saturdays 9.30am-4.30pm.  Before you commit enjoy a Taster Day Autumn 2008.

Post Diploma Modules

BWY Ayurveda Module

to be held near Darlington on the following dates

11, 12 October 2008, 29, 30 November 2008 & 31 Jan, 1 Feb 2009

Led by the experienced and well respected Cathy Mae Karels, the course will cover the philosophy and principles of Ayurveda, its integration into yoga practice, constitution, digestion and lifestyle
Eligible participants: The Ayurveda Module is now classified by the BWY as a Personal Development Module and as such is open to any student or registered member of the BWY who is suitable for the programme. It is no longer limited to teachers - so teachers, please make sure your students know about this opportunity !
Venue : Summerhouse Village Hall near Darlington - Main Road, Summerhouse DL2 3UD
Fees: £420 for the course fee + £40 registration fee.
